Spring Pest Control Checklist: 12 Steps to Protect Your Home

Spring is the most important time of year for pest prevention. As temperatures rise above 50°F, insect activity resurges, queen wasps emerge to establish new colonies, termite swarms begin, and overwintering mice become active again. A few hours of preventive work in early spring dramatically reduces pest pressure throughout the entire year.

This 12-step checklist covers everything from exterior inspection to product application, organized from most to least impactful.

Step 1: Inspect and Clean Gutters

Target pests: Mosquitoes, carpenter ants, termites, hornets

Clogged gutters hold standing water — a breeding site for mosquitoes — and retain moisture that damages fascia boards, attracting carpenter ants and termites. Remove winter debris, check for damaged sections, and confirm water drains away from the foundation through functional downspouts.
